FAQ'S

Here are just a few things about myself and my processes. However, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me on any of my social media platforms. 

What are your pronouns: I use she/her pronouns.

What does your name exactly mean? TheAtomicPirateGirl is a gamer tag and username I have had for over 20 years. It came about from a mid 2000's cartoon show called "Atomic Betty" and also during this time I was super into the history of pirates. So, TheAtomicPirateGirl was created and born. 

"Corporate Dropout?" What does that mean? As of 2025, I left a pretty stable job as an insurance claims adjuster to pursue my second bachelor's degree in art education because I was tired of living to survive and be a cog in the machine. So, I left the corporate insurance world behind with a blessing from my husband and my old boss. And here we are pursuing a new chapter of life!

Have you always been an Artist? I have always been a creative. I started out as a dreaming to be a published Writer and poured a lot of attention and focus into that. The Artist side came out later because I hit a terrible writers block and my best friend really inspired me to explore different levels of my creativity. 

Are you self-taught? Oh yeah! 100% I am most certainly a Jack of all trades and master of none! However, going back to school for art education has helped me hone my skills and taught me how to better articulate my processes and why I do the things I do.

What are your processes and why do you do the things you do? The writer in me meets the artist in me for coffee and they work together to capture moments of a story. The very beginning of my process starts with a storytelling and what moment do I want to capture. From there, I sketch and follow the piece where it wants to go and how it wants to be made. Generally speaking, I go off vibes. Every story wishes to be told in its own way. I find that if I try to force something to go a certain direction, then it goes pear shaped very quickly!

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? Right before I started my first semester back to school, I got myself a little gift of a Cameo from Tom De Ville, a TV, movie, and horror writer, director, and streamer over on Twitch. I valued his experience and insight on just being creative in general. And when I mentioned I was going back to school as a 40 something, and needed some encouraging, he said (and I am paraphrasing) to always keep moving and never be stagnant and you have the power to take control to make new chapters of your life and embrace those changes. 

(Also there was this TikTok that said to get all the amazing new stuff the Universe wants to give you, you got to let go of all the old stuff that doesn't serve you anymore.)

What are your favorite mediums to work in? I enjoy working in and trying most mediums, but I do tend to lean into watercolors, acrylic paint markers, and soft pastels.

How do you deal with/overcome creative blocks? I give those blocks space to be because the blocks to me mean one of two things: 1. Something about what I'm working on doesn't feel right, or 2. I just need a break. Then I allow myself the break to disconnect from the project.

How do you stay inspired? I listen to a lot of music, I read books and play video games. I consume art so I can make art.
